Erik, Thank you for following up – the ordering, shipping, and receiving process was a breeze. Assembly of the silt fence plow was a snap with clear instructions. We used the plow the day after we assembled it – with the help of a youtube video to get us started, we were able to put up nearly 1,000 feet of silt fence in under 4 hours with 1 operator and 2 workers, a sledgehammer and a stapler…and that was our first time ever using the device; I am sure it will go faster in the future. Thank you again for your help,
This is a type of attachment for skid steer loaders that can install silt fence in various terrains and conditions. Silt fence is a temporary barrier that prevents soil erosion and sediment runoff from construction sites. It can cut through the soil, debris and roots with a spring-loaded coulter and a hardened steel blade, and insert the silt fabric into the ground with an adjustable plow point and moldboard. A skid steer silt fence plow can also hold large rolls of silt fabric and keep them taut with a tension spring and a retention plate. It typically can only run in the reverse position, but ours allows for forward and reverse operation.
For this attachment, we recommended larger skid steers and track loaders because of the forward operation. This operation causes more power in order to operate smoothly. However, you can operate with smaller machines, but the fence laying would be less smooth.
The main reason laying fence in a forward direction is a big deal is that it offers operator ease. Typically, a silt fence plow sits in the center for the skid loader and you drive backwards, having to continuously look behind you in order to ensure you are operating safely. However, with this design you can drive forward and lay the fence to your left or right. This saves you the neck strain and gives you an equal or better finish.
