Dick – Just wanted to send you a quick note letting you know I’m officially a proud owner of an X4 Industrial Brush Cutter Open Front, and SP500 Forestry Mulcher. I have also made my brush & tree mastication and fire mitigation business official. Like we talked, both of the Skid Pro products will be the obvious back bone of my operation. I’ve got a bunch of before and after photos, along w/ videos if any of your prospective customers would want to check them out. And if there is anyone in northern California or southern Oregon needing a product demo, I would be happy to facilitate that as well. Thanks for providing incredibly innovative products of the highest quality, built for day-in and day-out commercial use. I look forward to many years of using Skid Pro products to help me grow my business.

Hi Eric, Things are going great with my 48” mulcher on my standard flow Bobcat T190 (16 gpm). It took a little seat-time to figure out the quickest method, but I have it down now. I can line up piles and work through them or take down bushes and small trees in short order. The biggest I've gone through so far is 5-6 inches. The oak and pine chop up quickly, but the manzanita that's very hard takes a few passes. It is however much faster than what I was doing before by cutting the Manzanita down then running it through a chipper. I’m far more productive and have reduced my hand labor to almost zero. Thanks again for a great product and service!

It is very reassuring buying equipment from a company that has customer service like yours and products that back it up. Thank you for your help!
Commonly Asked Questions
A skid steer mulcher is a powerful and versatile attachment for clearing vegetation. When choosing a forestry mulcher attachment for skid steer or track loader, there are two main types to consider. First, the disc mulcher, which resembles a brush cutter but features large mulching teeth for aggressive cutting. Second, the drum mulcher, where teeth are mounted on a rotating drum that grinds material directly beneath it. Both types have distinct advantages, so selecting the right one depends on your specific needs and desired outcome. Understanding the differences between disc mulchers and drum mulchers ensures you get the best performance for your land-clearing projects.
The Forestry Mulcher SP500 is available in both high-flow and standard-flow options, ensuring compatibility with various skid steers. To maximize performance, we match the motor to your machine's flow rate, guaranteeing smooth operation and optimal efficiency.
One of the most common questions we receive is whether to rent or buy a skid steer mulcher. The key factor is how often you'll use it. If it's a one-time job, renting is the best option. However, if you plan to use it frequently or for industrial or commercial applications, purchasing is the smarter investment. With rental costs averaging $700 to $800 per day, owning a low flow mulcher for skid steer can quickly pay for itself in just a few years of regular use. Assess your workload and long-term needs to make the best decision for your operation.
The size of the skid steers you need for a forestry mulcher depends on the mulcher’s flow and power requirements. For instance, skid steer standard mulcher has a minimum hydraulic flow of 17-25 gallons per minute and requires horse power of 50-75HP. These mulchers are best for light land clearing, brush, and small trees up to 4-6 inches in diameter. The minimum hydraulic flow of high-flow mulchers is 26-45+GPM and requires horse power of 75-120+ HP. These mulchers are ideal for heavy-duty land clearing, thick brushes, and trees up to 10+ inches in diameter. A high-flow skid steer with at least 75 HP is ideal for professional and commercial forestry mulching. Always check the mulcher’s flow requirements and ensure your machine meets or exceeds them for optimal performance.
A skid steer Forestry mulcher SP500 can clear 1-4 acres per day or even more for saplings and smaller brushes. Terrain, density of vegetation, and type of material such as brushes, saplings, and small trees influence the clearing speed.
Yes, a forestry mulcher attachment for skid steer is worth it for land clearing, if you need an efficient and fast way to remove vegetation. Here are the key benefits of owning a forestry mulcher attachment for skid steer:
- No need for multiple machines, i.e. excavators, bulldozers, and chippers
- Clears 1-4 acres depending on vegetation and flow
- No hauling or burning – mulches trees and brushes into the soil as organic matter
- Unlike excavators or bulldozers, mulchers do not destroy roots, reducing erosion and soil damage.
- It naturally creates a mulch layer that enriches the soil and prevents regrowth.
- It is ideal for farm and ranch maintenance, commercial and residential land development, and helps keep trails, roads, and utility paths clear.
The primary difference between a standard brush cutter and a forestry mulcher lies in their cutting mechanism, power, and intended use.
- Cutting Mechanism: A brush cutter features rotating blades or spinning disc that cuts through grass, weed, and light brush. A forestry mulcher is equipped with a rotating drum with carbide-tipped teeth to grind brush, trees, and vegetation into fine mulch.
- Power and Capability: A brush cutter requires low to moderate hydraulic flow (15-25 GPM) and is suited for cutting vegetation up to 2-4 inches in diameter. A forestry mulcher is available in low flow and high options, such as 12-25 GPM and 25-45 GPM, which makes it easy to handle trees up to 12 inches in diameter.
- End Result: A brush cutter cuts vegetation and leaves behind stumps, branches, and debris. A forestry mulcher completely grinds brushes, trees, and stumps into a fine mulch, leaving a smooth cleared surface.
